Mokume Gane

...

...is considered one of the most difficult goldsmith techniques. Only very few gold- and silversmiths use this complex technique in Germany. It is a fascinating forging method with almost an infinite amount of creative uses that originated in Japan around the year 1600. It involves bonding several thin metal sheets in a forging process. This layered block forms the original material from which customized pieces of jewelry are created that show an elaborate pattern. In this case as well, I only use pure precious metals and produce my Mokume Gané sheets in kilns especially retrofitted for the purpose.
The Mokume Gané technique allows me to work creatively in an exciting manner at a highly skilled level, because the grain is never one hundred percent predictable and therefore each piece of jewelry is absolutely unique. Using this technique, pleasure and pain simply go hand-in-hand. Yet, despite disappointments, which are simply a part of the process, I am still very thrilled by the work that I do. Using the Mokume Gané technique, I have found my own individual style, which I am continuously expanding and developing.
